Team News VfL Wolfsburg

Tommy Stroot gave a squad update before the match against Lyon: “Kristin Demann and Camilla Küver are known to be out until the winter break. Luca Papp and Lisa Schmitz will also be missing. We don’t want to take any risks there. Sarai Linder sustained a minor injury in the last few minutes in Bremen, so she won’t be able to play in Lyon either. As it is not a structural injury, she will probably be able to complete the winter training plan as normal. Sveindis Jonsdottir has also been suffering from slight knee problems since the game against Rome. That was also the main reason why she was unable to start against Werder Bremen. She is in the team, but we must keep her problems in mind.”

This means the head coach needs to rotate. Stroot will wait until the final training session: “and then decide what exactly we will do to create a good balance and deliver a stable performance. The rotation is not intended to give the game away. We can expect a great game under great conditions, even if on paper there is nothing left to play for.”

What the coach has to say

Olympique Lyon is not any team. They won the Women’s Champions League many times and are ready to reach the final once again. Stroot on the opponent: “I have huge respect for the Olympique Lyon team. OL manages to be stable every year and keep making it to the semi-finals. We know what to expect and that the opponent has a high level of individual quality. We have to accept that, but also accept it in certain phases.” Stroot continued: “We will have to invest more against the ball than in other games and defend consistently in one-on-one situations. This is all part of a process that we need to develop further.”
