Andries Jonker has announced that he will step down as head coach of The Oranje Leeuwinnen after the EURO 2025 this summer. The Dutch FA had yet to decide on his successor – until now. Arjan Veurink will take over as Dutch Women’s National Team Head Coach following the tournament this summer. He has signed a contract until the European Championship in 2029 and will officialy take charge during the October international window.

Who is Arjan Veurink?
Most may know him as the assistant coach of the England Lionesses, but Veurink’s career goes far beyond that. From 2012 to 2016, he served as head coach of FC Twente. With the Dutch club, he won the Women’s BeNe League twice, four domestic championships, and one Dutch Cup victory.
After his time at FC Twente, Veurink became the assistant coach at The Oranje Leeuwinnen underSarina Wiegman. The duo achieved remarkable success, winning the EURO 2017 and reaching the World Cup Final in 2019. When Wiegman made the move to England, Veurink joined her as assistant coach with the Lionesses. In England, he secured another European title and once again reached a World Cup Final.
Time for a new adventure
After the massive successes he had with both the Dutch and England women’s national teams, it’s time for a new adventure. Arjan Veurink’s reaction to the challenge:
“This is not only a great challenge and a new adventure, but it also feels like the next logical step in my career. I have never made it a secret that I wanted to be head coach with the Dutch national team. With more than eight years’ experience at the highest level as Sarina Wiegman’s right hand, first with the Netherlands and now in England, I am ready to stand on my own two feet.
“The fact that this opportunity is now presenting itself in the Netherlands makes it extra special. I will first do everything I can to conclude the coming months in England in style and then start this new chapter after the European Championships in Zeist.”
Statement Dutch FA – Nigel de Jong
“Arjan has a rich history in women’s football and has experienced the developments that international women’s football has undergone over the past fifteen years up close. He knows what is required at the absolute top but also knows how important it is to maintain the connection with the grassroots. We are therefore pleased that he wants to take on the challenge. I look forward to working together and to continue to build on the success of the OranjeLeeuwinnen. Finally, we would also like to thank the English Football Association for their cooperation,” de Jong stated.
