Tottenham Hotspur and London City Lionesses meet in one of the standout fixtures of the Women’s Super League weekend on Sunday, with just one point separating the two sides near the top of the table.

Spurs have made an unbeaten start under Martin Ho, taking ten points from four matches, while London City sit fourth after winning three of their opening four. With both sides showing early signs that they can compete towards the top end of the WSL, Sunday provides an intriguing test before the international break.

How to watch Tottenham vs London City

The match will be available to watch live in the UK as part of the WSL’s broadcast coverage. The WSL has expanded its coverage significantly this season, with every top-flight fixture available across Sky Sports, BBC or YouTube.

Tottenham’s impressive start continues

Tottenham head into the weekend second in the WSL after three wins and one draw from their opening four matches.vTheir 15 goals are particularly eye-catching, but Ho has been equally pleased with the improvement without the ball. Spurs have recorded four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions and have become more difficult to break down.

That balance was evident in last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Aston Villa. All four goals arrived after half-time, continuing an unusual trend: Tottenham’s last 11 goals have all been scored in the second half.

Ho believes the difference has been their collective commitment defensively rather than a major tactical overhaul. Spurs also arrive with a seven-match unbeaten run in the WSL, which Ho described as a new club record.

London City provide another major test

London City’s ambitious summer recruitment is already translating into results. Eder Maestre’s side have nine points from four league matches, with victories over Manchester United, Charlton Athletic and Brighton. Their only WSL defeat came away to West Ham.

Last weekend’s 2-0 win against Brighton was another demonstration of the quality available to Maestre. Alexia Putellas and Freya Godfrey scored, while a starting XI featuring Mapi León, Grace Geyoro, Kadidiatou Diani, Daniëlle van de Donk and Putellas underlined the depth of the squad.

Ho believes Sunday’s opponent has evolved considerably since last season, describing London City as more dynamic and highlighting the addition of world-class players. That makes this a useful early measure of Tottenham’s progress.

Tottenham Hotspur vs London City Team news

Tottenham should have almost a full squad available. Ho confirmed on Friday that Jess Naz, Maite Oroz and Clare Hunt remain the only long-term absentees, with everyone else available for selection.

That should allow the Spurs boss to return to something close to the side that defeated Aston Villa after making changes for Wednesday’s 1-0 Subway Players Cup victory over Brighton.

London City had not released a fresh team-news update for the match at the time of writing.

Predicted line-ups

Tottenham predicted XI: Kop; Dijkstra, Koga, Nildén; Holdt, Gaupset, Spence, Hanson; Pelova; Tandberg, Blakstad.

Ho has plenty of options, but the performance against Villa gives him little reason to make major changes. Victoria Pelova should remain one of the central attacking figures after an excellent start to the campaign.

London City predicted XI: Lete; Fernandez, Kardinaal, León, Corrales; Geyoro, Arques; Diani, Putellas, Van de Donk; Godfrey.

Maestre could alter the attacking line, but the XI that beat Brighton provides the clearest indication of how London City may approach this match.

Recent meetings

There was little between these teams last season. London City won the first WSL meeting 4-2 before Tottenham responded with a 2-1 victory in May. They also met in the Women’s FA Cup, with Spurs progressing on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Sunday’s meeting should provide another indication of how the balance between the two clubs has changed following a busy summer.

Prediction

This looks like Tottenham’s toughest test of the season so far. London City have enough individual quality to cause Spurs problems, particularly through Putellas, Diani and Geyoro, but Tottenham’s start has been built on more than attacking form. Their defensive organisation has improved considerably and confidence is high.

There should be chances at both ends, but home advantage and Spurs’ recent consistency could just make the difference.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-3 London City Lionesses
