The Olympic Zambia Squad 2024 was one of the four teams that failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the women’s football Olympics 2024. The team lost all their group-stage matches, but gave a formidable performance against Australia. The Matildas only just won the match by 6-5. Zambia will hopefully take whatever they can from this tournament and make the right adjustments for a more successful run next time. A new head coach would be a great start.
The team has two of the most expensive women’s football players in their squad: Kundananji and B. Banda. The Olympics women’s football starts on Thursday the 25th of July with matches across all the groups. Zambia was in group B with the USA, Australia and Germany. Three formidable opponents, but underestimating Zambia would be a great mistake.
Olympic Zambia Squad 2024
The following players are selected by Bruce Mwape, the head coach of Zambia women’s football team. Two players are out due to injury: Evarine Katongo and Susan Banda. Mwape commented that Margret Belemu and Ireen Lungu won’t be joining the squad due to their form. This is the Olympic Zambia Squad 2024:
Goalkeepers: Catherine Musondam Ngambo Musole, Eunice Sakala.
Defenders: Diana Banda, Esther Siamfuko, Lushomo Mweeba, Pauline Zulu, Martha Tembo, Esther Muchinga Vast Phiri.
Midfielders: Rhodah Chileshe, Misozi Zulu, Grace Chanda, Avell Chitunda, Hellen Chanda, Mary Wilombe.
Forwards: Ochumba Oseke, Kabange Mupopo, Barbra Banda, Prisca Chilufya, Racheal Kundananji, Racheal Nachula.
Nations are only allowed an 18-player squad. As you can see there are 22 on the list above. Head coaches are allowed to appoint four alternates who travel with the group to Paris. The Olympic Committee also made a decision on Mwape. The head coach of Zambia is still under investigation for sexual misconduct but can coach Zambia during the tournament.
Schedule before the tournament
The FIFA international window was between the 8th and 16th of July. Zambia used the window to play against New Zealand on the 14th of July. We watched the match for free on FIFA+. Zambia scored the opener in the early minutes of the second half. New Zealand had more ball possession, but when Zambia had the ball they were way more effective. With only 299 passes they managed to create 11 chances and seven shots on target.
New Zealand had 8 corners, 12 chances and 6 shots on target. Not a lot more than Zambia, but it took them 488 passes to create this. In only two days their Paris 2024 Olympics women’s football adventure starts. We are excited to see what Zambia will bring to the tournament.

The Olympic Zambia Squad is in Group B with USA, Germany and Australia. They will play matches on the following dates:

- Wednesday the 31st of July 19:00 Zambia vs Germany – Result: 1-4
