Benfica have signed Hungarian midfielder Anna Csiki permanently from Tottenham Hotspur on a contract until 2028, with an option for an additional season.
The 26-year-old spent the first half of 2025/26 on loan at West Ham United before joining Roma in February. She finished the campaign by winning Serie A and the Coppa Italia with the Italian club.
Csiki now joins a Benfica team that completed its sixth consecutive Portuguese title-winning season and will compete in the 2026/27 Women’s Champions League.

Permanent move follows three clubs in two seasons
Anna Csiki joined Tottenham from BK Häcken in August 2024 and made 13 appearances during her first season in England. Eight of those came in the WSL, while she registered two assists across all competitions. Her opportunities at Tottenham remained limited, and she was sent to West Ham on loan in September 2025.
Csiki scored her first WSL goal during a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in December. She had entered the match shortly before the hour and scored eight minutes later, redirecting Ffion Morgan’s effort into the net. Her West Ham loan ended early when she moved to Roma for the second half of the season.
The permanent transfer to Benfica gives Csiki greater contractual stability after representing three clubs across England and Italy in two years. Tottenham, meanwhile, move on a player who was not part of their regular starting midfield.
Roma spell added two major trophies
Csiki made eight Serie A appearances for Roma after arriving in February and recorded one assist. She also featured in their Coppa Italia campaign and started the final against Juventus. Roma won the match 1-0 to complete a domestic double, adding the cup to their Serie A title.
Anna Csiki was not one of Roma’s highest-minute players across the full season, but she contributed during the decisive final months and gained experience within a title-winning squad.
That is relevant for Benfica, whose domestic objective remains unchanged. The Portuguese champions are pursuing a seventh consecutive league title and have also won three Portuguese Cups.
Csiki has previously won league and cup honours in Sweden with BK Häcken, giving Benfica another player familiar with the expectations of a team that is required to compete for every domestic trophy.
Champions League experience supports Benfica’s European plans
Benfica finished 16th in the 2025/26 Champions League league phase after scoring four goals and conceding 11 across six matches. They qualified for the 2026/27 competition by retaining the Portuguese championship. The club’s best European result remains its quarter-final appearance in 2023/24.
Csiki already has experience in the tournament from her four years with BK Häcken. She faced Benfica during the 2021/22 group stage and played in the match in Sweden, which the Portuguese side won 2-1.

The role Csiki describes for herself
Csiki identifies technical quality, creativity and chance creation as the main elements of her game. She can contribute in central midfield while moving forward to support attacks, although her recent scoring record indicates that she should not be recruited primarily as a high-volume goalscorer.
Her stated objective of contributing more goals reflects an area in which she can improve. Her first WSL goal and assist for Roma offer recent evidence of greater involvement in attacking phases, but consistent creation will be the more important measure of her Benfica role.
The Portuguese champions already control most domestic matches through possession. Anna Csiki’s ability to receive the ball in midfield and create opportunities should suit that environment, while Champions League fixtures will require her to contribute without the same level of territorial control.
A Hungarian international since 2017
Csiki made her senior Hungary debut in September 2017 after previously representing the country at under-17 and under-19 level. She also becomes the latest Hungarian player to represent Benfica. Csiki specifically referred to the continued importance of former Benfica forward Miklós Fehér in Hungary and said she was proud to continue the connection between the country and the Lisbon club.
Her immediate football objectives are clear: establish a regular role, help Benfica retain their domestic titles and contribute to an improved Champions League campaign.
