Ena Mahmutovic has signed a new contract with Bayern Munich, keeping the Germany international goalkeeper at the club until 2029.
The 22-year-old joined FC Bayern Women from Duisburg in the summer of 2024 and has since developed into Bayern’s first-choice goalkeeper. Her previous contract was due to run until June 2027.
Mahmutovic has already won two domestic doubles and two German Supercups during her first two seasons in Munich.
Bayern secure Mahmutovic’s long-term future
Ena Mahmutovic arrived at Bayern after establishing herself as Duisburg’s first-choice goalkeeper and made her competitive debut for the Bavarian club against Eintracht Frankfurt in November 2024.
Bayern director of women’s football Bianca Rech highlighted Mahmutovic’s development since arriving in Munich and described securing a first-choice goalkeeper as an important part of the club’s long-term planning.
Rech also praised the goalkeeper’s reactions, bravery and ability with the ball, with Bayern believing Mahmutovic can continue developing over the coming seasons.
For Mahmutovic, the extension gives her the opportunity to pursue further success with Bayern after already collecting several domestic trophies.
“I’m really happy to have extended my contract with Bayern,” Mahmutovic said. “I feel really good here and have already had two great years where I’ve been able to develop in both a sporting and personal sense.”
The goalkeeper also made clear that European success is one of her main ambitions.
“My big goal is to win a European trophy with Bayern and win even more titles on the domestic front.”
From Duisburg to Bayern Munich
Born in Duisburg in December 2003, Mahmutovic joined her hometown club’s academy in 2014 before progressing into the senior team.
Her Bundesliga debut came at just 16 years old in May 2020 in unusual circumstances. Despite being a goalkeeper, Mahmutovic appeared as an outfield player because Duisburg were short of available players. She later established herself in goal before Bayern Munich signed her in 2024.
Mahmutovic’s progress has also carried over to international football. She received her first senior Germany call-up in 2023 and made her international debut against Italy in December 2024. She was subsequently included in Germany’s squad for Euro 2025.
Now tied to Bayern Munich until 2029, Mahmutovic is set to remain a central part of the club’s plans as they target further domestic success and a first Women’s Champions League title.
