OL Lyonnes have signed Spain international Salma Paralluelo on a four-year contract until June 2030 following her departure from Barcelona. The 22-year-old leaves Spain for the first time after scoring 72 goals in 131 Barcelona appearances and winning 15 trophies. Her new club already understands how decisive she can be.
Paralluelo’s final goals for Barcelona came against OL Lyonnes in the Champions League final in Oslo. She scored twice to secure another European title for the Catalan club, ending her four-year spell by directly denying the team she has now chosen to join.
OL Lyonnes have not simply recruited a decorated forward. They have taken one of Barcelona’s defining attackers and made her part of their attempt to return to the top of Europe.

Paralluelo follows Caroline Weir, Maria Luisa Grohs and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd into Lyon’s squad. Those arrivals cover several areas of the team and show that Lyon are not making small adjustments after last season. They are adding players expected to contribute immediately while committing to a squad capable of competing across multiple seasons.
Paralluelo is the clearest expression of that ambition. She arrives from the European champions after finishing third in the Women’s Ballon d’Or rankings in both 2023 and 2024. She has won the Champions League three times and completed a four-trophy season with Barcelona in 2024.
OL Lyonnes are not asking her to grow into the pressure of competing for major honours. That pressure has defined her senior career. The challenge is transferring those performances into a different club, league and footballing environment for the first time.

Salma Paralluelo’s unusual international record helps explain why she has been trusted in decisive matches at such a young age. Lyon are recruiting that record, but they are also taking on the responsibility of ensuring her development does not become static. Barcelona transformed an athlete with exceptional potential into one of Europe’s most versatile forwards. Lyon must now find the next improvement.
Barcelona’s Loss Changes Lyon’s Possibilities
Paralluelo’s departure was already a significant moment in Barcelona’s squad overhaul. Replacing her goals, speed and positional flexibility was going to be difficult regardless of her destination. Her decision to join OL Lyonnes makes that loss more consequential.
Barcelona have not watched Paralluelo leave for a club outside their immediate European competition. She has joined the team she helped defeat in the Champions League final.
Lyon gain a forward capable of changing the tactical shape of their attack and deciding the matches upon which European seasons depend. Barcelona lose the same qualities to a club determined to overcome them.
When the Champions League returns, Paralluelo will no longer be the player Lyon must find a way to stop. She may instead become the reason Barcelona have to reconsider how they stop Lyon.
