Manchester United traveled to Telford Stadium to face off with Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Wolves kept fighting until the end but lost 0-6 to the Women’s FA Cup holders. It was a match filled with highlights. Read our Match Report on Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester United here.

Good start from The Wolves
Wolverhampton Wanderers had a really bright start to the match. They put pressure on the visitors and managed to keep their efforts on goal limited. Goalkeeper Thomas did make a brilliant save in the 7th minute, keeping her team in the match.
Manchester United quickly dominated the game after around eight minutes. Marc Skinner’s side constantly pressured The Wolves box but goalkeeper Thomas and the defenders were doing excellent work.
Looking for a mistake
When Miyazawa gave the ball away to Toussaint The Wolves immediately turned around and tried to set up their attack. It showed great determination in the first half. The pressure of the home team earned them a corner in the 17th minute but the ball was cleared by Manchester United.
Thomas saves another shot, this time from Malard who could easily have scored there. Just after the save Manchester United attack again and this time the goalkeeper can’t do anything about it. Malard got the ball from Clinton and sent it across the goal. Terland was there to tap it in from the far post.
Galton Doubles the lead on 150th appearance
After conceding the first goal Wolverhampton Wanderers stuck to their plan but could not stop Manchester Unied from doubling their lead. Galton made her run down the left, cut inside and aimed her shot for the near post. Goalkeeper Thomas was not in time to make the save.
There is a short break in play when Beth Roberts needed some treatment. She got back to her feet and continued to play. With only a couple minutes left until half-time, Manchester United tried to score their third. Malard got really close but she and Johnson went down in the box. Both returned to the pitch.
Second-Half: Manchester United is unstoppable
Lily Simkin replaced Beth Roberts at the break. Manchester United started the second-half unchanged. The visitors did not wait long to score their third. Turner’s cross found the head of a teammate at the far post. The ball was headed across goal and landed perfectly for Mannion to tap it past goalkeeper Thomas.
Manchester United took complete control after the third goal. Wolverhampton could not get away from under their pressure. The fourth goal followed minutes after the third. It was Ella Toone that had to get one of her long distance bangers in.
Substitutes: Geyse is back
Marc Skinner brought on fresh legs around the one-hour mark. Sandberg, Galton and Terland made way for George, Geyse and Williams.
- Racheal Quigley and Josie Smith replace Abi Jenner and Beth Merrick with just under half hour remaining.
Fighting until the 90th minute
Even though The Wolves were down 4-0 they kept fighting to keep the score line down. They were not able to prevent the fifth goal when Millie Turner headed it in. But luckily the off side flag went up so it stayed 4-0.
Marc Skinner brought on Griffiths with ten more minutes on the clock. It is her debut for the senior team. At the same time The Wolves also made their final change: Holmes and Cross on for George and Hughes.
Manchester United did get their fifth goal in. It was Mared Griffiths that scored a debut goal. She did it again seven minutes later, scoring Manchester United’s sixth in stoppage time. Brilliant work from the young football player.
Women’s Football Matters – We Care!
Manchester United supporters took a stand against the words of Alan Brazil. On TalkSport he said ‘nobody cares’ about the MUWFC. Shebahn Aherne took a stand and so did the supporters before the match.
